It was a beautiful hot summer’s morning, right at the start of Spring, that I ventured out to Ruimsig to enjoy the charms of a course that I had heard so many good things about. I was privileged to be teamed up with two more PlayMore Golfers, and we proceeded on the long walk to the 10th tee for our allotted tee off time.
For the 10th and 11th holes, the course seemed pretty average, but when we walked from the 11th green to the 12th tee, we were treated to a beautiful vista of this golf course stretched out in front of us. All three of us just stood and looked, absorbing the sheer size of this course! So do yourself a favour – start on the 10th. It’s well worth the walk and the view.
The course itself is long and challenging with a fair amount of water. But it’s pretty flat and easy to walk. The greens however do not favour any person. These are really difficult greens to read and more so to play. If you don’t land the ball close to the pin, you’re more than likely in for a three putt.
Ruimsig has the reputation of being one of South Africa’s premier courses, and it certainly lives up to that reputation. The course is in great condition considering that we are just coming out of winter, and the facilities are excellent.
Is this course worth booking? Absolutely! It’s the kind of course that calls you back again and again.
